Is DonutJobs the cheapest way to hire a virtual assistant directly?

Is DonutJobs the Cheapest Way to Hire a Virtual Assistant Directly? Among platforms where you hire and manage the virtual assistant yourself, overall cost comes down to volume and fee structure. Finding the cheapest virtual assistant requires looking past the initial sticker price to evaluate how expenses scale over time. DonutJobs runs on a flat subscription model ($99/month, or $55/month on a 6-month term) with no per-hire or commission fees, making it significantly cheaper than Upwork or Fiverr once you hire more than one or two people a year https://donutjobs.work/pricing. OnlineJobs.ph also uses a flat fee structure with a larger raw candidate pool, but because you handle the screening process entirely by yourself, a portion of the real cost shows up in your own time expenditure. Managed outsourcing services like Time Etc or Belay sit well above all of these options financially, since you are paying a heavy premium for someone else to manage the assistant on your behalf. For repeat hiring, DonutJobs is usually the most cost-effective direct-hire option available, whereas for a single one-off project, OnlineJobs.ph or other gig sites can undercut it on paper. Direct Hiring vs a Managed Service Understanding how to source cost-effective talent begins with clarifying the difference between models. Direct hiring means you post the role, review candidates, conduct interviews, and manage the person directly once they are hired. The platform provides underlying infrastructure rather than acting as a middleman. DonutJobs, OnlineJobs.ph, and to a lesser extent Upwork and Fiverr fall neatly into this category. By contrast, a managed service like Time Etc, Belay, or Wing Assistant works entirely differently. An agency matches you with an assistant and stays actively involved in supervising, training, or replacing that person if performance slips. You are paying a substantial premium to run the administrative, hiring, and management layer. Both models serve distinct business needs, but comparing their prices only makes sense once you have decided who will handle the daily management overhead. If you want a low cost virtual assistant without paying recurring management retainers, direct hiring is the most efficient path forward. DonutJobs Pricing, in Plain Numbers When looking for a budget friendly outsourcing solution, transparent pricing is essential. DonutJobs operates on a straightforward subscription model rather than charging predatory fees per placement. There are two core subscription tiers available: Agency Plan: $99/month month-to-month, or $55/month when billed on a 6-month term. This includes 10 active job posts and 300 Talent Pool contacts per month, alongside 1 team seat. Pro Plan: $299/month month-to-month, or $166/month on a 6-month term. This provides unlimited job posts and Talent Pool contacts, 5 team seats, and direct founder-level support. There is also a $149 one-time Hiring Sprint designed specifically for first-time employers. This grants a full month of Agency-level access plus a bundle of candidate boosts. If you hire successfully within 30 days and complete the required steps, that initial $149 converts cleanly into platform credit toward a longer-term subscription. There are no hidden commissions or per-hire fees. Whether you hire one person or ten individuals in a single month, your platform cost remains completely fixed. You can review the full breakdown directly on the pricing page. Furthermore, all essential infrastructure tools like the built-in applicant tracking system (ATS), Talent Pool access, candidate screening data, and direct chat tools are included inside that same single fee, as detailed further on the features page. How OnlineJobs.ph, Upwork, and Fiverr Compare for Direct Hiring When evaluating the lowest cost VA hiring platform, it helps to analyse how the major industry alternatives stack up against each other. OnlineJobs.ph OnlineJobs.ph is a long-established, Philippines-focused job board featuring a very large raw pool of profiles compared to most competitors. It runs on a flat monthly fee structure, meaning it competes directly on price terms. However, the key differentiator lies in what is included inside that fee. OnlineJobs.ph provides listings and candidate profiles, but it lacks a bundled verification layer or an integrated applicant tracking system. This means you must screen every single applicant from scratch yourself. While that labour is not printed as an explicit line item on an invoice, it represents a very real cost measured in hours of lost productivity. Upwork and Fiverr Upwork and Fiverr are fundamentally built around short-term gig work and project-based tasks rather than ongoing, employment-style remote roles. Neither platform uses flat subscription pricing. Instead, both attach steep service fees directly to every transaction. Consequently, the longer an offshore worker stays with you on these platforms, the more those compounding fees add up. While a single small task is financially manageable, an ongoing working relationship results in fee structures that quickly eclipse the cost of a flat monthly subscription. Why Managed Services Cost More Managed virtual assistant providers command higher rates because you are purchasing active management oversight rather than mere infrastructure access. This includes end-to-end sourcing, rigorous vetting, structured onboarding, and ongoing supervision if performance begins to slip. On a direct hire virtual assistant platform, that operational work falls directly onto your shoulders or is streamlined by an integrated ATS. This is not a flaw in either model, but rather a fundamental trade-off: you either trade a higher management fee for greater convenience, or you invest your own time to bypass agency markup completely. Who Direct Hiring Is Cheapest For, and Who It Isn't Direct hiring is unequivocally the most cost-effective approach for specific types of businesses: Businesses hiring more than one virtual assistant per year, where a predictable flat subscription easily beats paying percentage-based transaction fees. Growing teams looking to build an active hiring bench and a steady pipeline of pre-screened candidates before an existing team member transitions out. Founders and managers who feel entirely comfortable running their own remote interviews and making the ultimate call on cultural and professional fit. Conversely, direct hiring is usually not the cheapest route for a single, one-off project where a transactional gig fee might keep initial costs lower. It is also less ideal for founders who have zero spare hours to review profiles and screen applicants manually. If you are trying to calculate what a specific remote role should cost in the current market, the Salary Check tool serves as a highly reliable starting point. The Risk: Lowest Sticker Price Isn't Lowest Cost Per Hire Securing a cheap monthly fee or a low headline price means very little if you have to churn through three failed hires before finding a competent professional. The true mathematical equation behind finding the cheapest way to hire a virtual assistant directly is total financial and time expenditure divided by successful, long-term hires, rather than just looking at the base rate printed on a pricing page. To mitigate this risk, DonutJobs implements a rigorous 4-step verification process. This includes an internet and hardware audit, an English language proficiency test, a live typing speed test, and a recorded voice sample. Every profile is fully vetted before it ever appears in the Talent Pool. This allows you to work from pre-checked candidates and authentic screening data before you commit, drastically reducing the odds of a bad hire compared to sorting through a completely cold list. Transparency is vital: DonutJobs does not offer a replacement guarantee, and there is no absolute promise that any given hire will succeed once onboarded. Refunds are strictly limited to the subscription fee itself: full refunds are available within 48 hours of your first purchase before you have messaged any candidates, with no refunds applicable on subscription renewals. Full terms are outlined clearly on the refund policy page. OnlineJobs.ph carries a different set of underlying risks due to its larger pool size, which yields more options but includes many unverified profiles lacking built-in signals for reliability. Frequently Asked Questions Is DonutJobs cheaper than Upwork for hiring a virtual assistant? For a single, short-term project, Upwork's per-transaction fee structure can sometimes look lower in absolute terms because you only pay for that single engagement. However, if you are hiring an ongoing virtual assistant, or expect to make multiple hires over the course of a year, DonutJobs' flat subscription model ($55 to $99 a month depending on the chosen term) consistently works out much cheaper. Upwork fees scale continuously with how much you pay your freelancer over time, whereas DonutJobs keeps costs entirely flat whether you hire one person or several. Is OnlineJobs.ph cheaper than DonutJobs? Both platforms operate on flat fee subscriptions rather than taking commissions on freelancer earnings, so they compete closely on initial price. The primary difference lies in what is covered. OnlineJobs.ph offers a larger raw pool of profiles, but provides no built-in verification layer or applicant tracking system, requiring you to vet typing speed, English communication, and reliability manually. DonutJobs bundles its 4-step verification and an internal ATS directly into the flat subscription fee. Therefore, whether DonutJobs is cheaper depends heavily on how you value the hours you would otherwise spend on manual screening. Does DonutJobs guarantee a successful hire if I pay for a subscription? No. The subscription grants you access to a verified Talent Pool, candidate screening data, and an applicant tracking system to manage your own recruitment process from application to offer. This provides a structured framework rather than a performance guarantee. DonutJobs does not offer replacement guarantees, and ultimate hiring success depends on your management and interview process. Refund terms apply exclusively to the platform subscription as outlined in official policies. What is the cheapest way to hire a virtual assistant if I only need one? If you require a strict one-off task with zero intention of building an ongoing remote team, project-based gig marketplaces can sometimes require less upfront capital since you avoid a monthly subscription. If there is any likelihood that you will hire again within the year, or if you want a reliable pipeline of pre-screened talent ready before a vacancy opens, a flat-fee direct-hire platform represents a far better financial choice over time. DonutJobs is designed to be the lowest cost VA hiring platform for businesses ready to scale without losing capital to middleman markups.
